Storage

When the time came to put some things back into place I realized my closet was not used 100%. Clothes would hang on hangers and two hanging kind of pockets to put the rest of my clothes in them. Not only was this a terrible way to organize my stuff, but also I have a lot more to fold than to hang up and that space was not provided. AND SO I went into Home Depot with my dad and we chose a few pieces of wood that matched the furniture in my room. My dad took out the shelf that was already there, I measured the amount that needed to be cut off and asked my dad to cut it for me so I don't accidentally cut wrong and ruin the wood.

In order to hang them you need a smaller but thicker piece of wood attached to the wall which you will put the shelf on.

After that's done, be sure to fully clean out the closet from dust and dirt before putting clothes in there. I also put my dresser inside because it was taking up lots of space in my room and just looked really weird.

My dad added a special kind of metal with spaces in it and attached it to the closet door so I can hang the things that need to be hung ( 2-3 dresses maybe even less ) and that is the finished photo for the closet.

Finished here :)
Space issue addressed! hopefully I'll be able to put up shelves and the mirror this weekend, if not then next weekend I'll do that and start some DIYs for little ways to decorate the room.

'Till then ! :)

Onto the next..

The walls are finally done! they are drying from the last coat and should be able to move around furniture starting tomorrow.

here are some photos..

Since I ran out of tape and messed up the lines a bit, I went over it today with tape and paint, so the lines are straight now :p

My next goal is to hang up some shelves and hang up the mirror.

First coat

Official first day of Project Room!

A very important rule before painting your walls is to take a damp cloth and wipe the walls to make sure all the dirt and dust is off before the paint goes on.

After that's done, get tape from any hardware store that is specifically for painting walls, it is sticky enough to stay on the wall but not too much to rip of the paint when you take it off the walls. Using the tape, outline all the borders and where you would not want the paint to go on. (ex. closet doors, outlets, ceiling..etc)

Also, make sure to cover the floors with news paper to protect the floors from the paint. When those things are done, you are ready to start! I got a paint kit at Home Depot that comes with 2 rolls, a roller holder, a brush, and the tray. (Those probably aren't the actual names for the items, I'm just not sure what they're called and that was the first thing that came in mind :p )

Start with the brush and outline right under the tape because the roller will not reach the top and corners..

When you're done outlining you can use the roller from then on to fill in the rest. One thing I forgot to mention, the paint I bought already has everything in it and so I did not need to prime the walls or do anything, I could just proceed to painting right away. Make sure when you buy the paint that it's all included unless you want to do this 3 hour job twice.

Whatever is not painted you can fill in with the brush later on. Definitely wear something comfortable and something you don't mind getting dirty, because you will be doing gymnastics trying to reach certain corners and paint WILL eventually end up on you.. I kept a piece of cloth in my pocket because I kept going over the tape and when the paint it still wet you can quickly wipe it off before it's too late. Also to wipe off dirt if it's in the way.

After just a few exhausting hours, I was finally done. For today that is.. Tomorrow it's time for the blue to come in. The sections on the walls are the ones that will be coloured blue. Not sure if I'm going to add another coat of paint, I'm gonna let it dry overnight and enjoy sleeping on the couch, and see whether it needs another coat or if I can start the blue. So far everything is going the way it should and hopefully tomorrow will be the same so I'll be able to get the painting done by Sunday afternoon.

Well, that's all until tomorrow, if any of you have any questions regarding anything at all, please feel free to ask me and I will do my best to answer them and hopefully help out.

P.S. this was my first time ever painting a wall... I think I did an O.K job :)

Ciao!

Here we go..

My room is ugly.
The walls are bright white, the furniture is nothing out of the ordinary, and the walls are completely empty, other than a doctor's appointment written on the wall with a pencil from June of last year.
There's nothing worse than being a girl going into interior design with a super creative mind and having this completely bizarre room which I spend most of my time in.
Something must be done!
However money definitely doesn't grow on trees, and so I came up with Project Room. A project that will kill two birds with one stone; boredom and keep the piggy bank alive. I'm going to come up with ways to enhance the quality of life within those walls in a way that will be pleasing to the eye and as much use out of DIYs as possible! I know I'm not the only one suffering from this issue, and so I really hope I can inspire others to do the same and believe that, yes, it's possible to have this done with a small budget, and, no, you do not need thousands of dollars to get this done - all you need is inspiration. So with a new year come new goals and a fresh start, I'm hoping to get this done by the end of November, which leaves me with 3 months of work. Well time is ticking!

Let's begin!

The first thing that must be done is choosing a theme, asking yourself what is that you want this room to remind you of? What do you want to feel when you are in it? I thought since it's my bedroom I'd like it to be relaxing, something that will calm me down and create a soothing environment. I thought of a beach; the waves, the blue tones that are super relaxing to look at, and just the thought of a beach automatically relaxes me, and so this is what I'm going to focus on. Your's could be anything you wish.

When you think beach what comes to mind? What colours come in mind?
Water - blues
Sand- yellows
Plants around - Greens
Sunset - Pinks, reds, and oranges

However, every colour has it's job when it comes to setting your mood..

-Blues are soothing

-Yellows are energetic

Green- is nature and is calm

Red- anger, warmth, energy

Purple - royal colour and is very rich

Pink- warm, happy

Orange - energetic, fun

Brown - calm

White- purity

Black - evil, power

After choosing your colour I highly suggest doing some research about the colour and make sure it suits you mentally.
Also consider;

-size of room, could be very affected by a dark colour and feel smaller and very claustrophobic. Should consider lighter shades of light colours.

-natural light, if room gets a lot of light the colour of the walls may be too bright and make your eyes feel like they're falling out. Consider something that won't pop out or perhaps paint that won't be shiny.

After doing so, you may go to your closest Home Depot or any store that sells paint, really, and collect a few of those colourful papers that show you the shades of each colour. See which colour you're interested in and take a few of each colour to have lots of options. Take tape and stick them on the wall that gets the most sun, see what it looks like during the day and in the evening. I changed my mind that way at least 15 times because the colour looks nice in the store but very different on your walls.

My final decision was "Taking the Plunge" blue and "Cappuccino" beige from Home Depot. I decided I didn't want just one colour, but two, and to make it even more interesting I decided to make 2 accent parts on two of the walls.
each wall will have a blue part that will just be a thick stripe from the ceiling to the floor. The paint is bought and is waiting to be applied the coming up weekend, as soon as that's done I will begin the DIYs.
Until then...Ciao!
